Acumatica vs. NetSuite: Which Should I Choose?

by Nov 13, 2020Acumatica, Expert advice0 comments

Selecting a new ERP system for your business is a decision that will affect everything from in-house operations to distribution for years to come. As you’ve looked around at various options, chances are you’ve seen two heavy hitters going up against one another again and again: Acumatica and NetSuite. Both options integrate a comprehensive CRM, eCommerce features, and BI into their ERP structure. They both offer support for a wide range of verticals, including manufacturing and retail. Acumatica versus NetSuite, which is best for you? Let’s dive in.

Deployment

This first category may show their starkest difference. NetSuite is only available in the cloud, while Acumatica allows you to go with a cloud, on-premise or hybrid approach. For those in highly regulated industries, the added security of on-premises ERP can be a significant advantage. Others might enjoy the hybrid approach, leveraging advantages from both a cloud structure and on-premises deployment.

Scalability

Everyone wants an ERP that can grow with them over time or that, when times are tougher, will allow them to scale back quickly and easily. With scalability, Acumatica once more comes out ahead. While both offerings charge based on the computing resources the customer consumes, NetSuite also charges on a per-user basis, while Acumatica does not. So, as your company grows and you add more users, you won’t need to worry about ERP costs skyrocketing.

Customizability

Both Acumatica and NetSuite offer customization features so users can adapt the software to their needs. Acumatica takes a “point and click” approach and uses common coding languages such as C# and .NET. NetSuite relies on a proprietary programming language, known as SuiteScript. Unless you have IT staff fluent in this language, customizing the software may become complex and costly.

Data Migration

One of the key advantages of modern ERPs is having ready and easy access to your data. With data migration, you may find that NetSuite has your information on lockdown. It doesn’t allow users to export their data directly in a relational format. This can drive up the costs and logistics of a data migration. Acumatica keeps things simpler. It offers built-in automated backup of data and a snapshot feature that lets you access a fully relational copy of your data any time that you like.

Licensing

While many prefer spreading the cost of ERP over time with subscription licensing, others might prefer a depreciable capital expense upfront. NetSuite and Acumatica both offer the former. But only Acumatica gives customers a “perpetual license” choice.

Customer Satisfaction

Finally, when comparing Acumatica versus NetSuite, there are the twin issues of customer support and satisfaction. In a recent survey run by G2 Crowd, users showed a clear preference for Acumatica in several categories. They stated the company offered a more user-friendly solution and was also easier to work with. The quality of support offered by Acumatica outperformed NetSuite by ten points, while 84 percent of users said Acumatica met their requirements (as opposed to 79 percent for NetSuite.)

Choosing an ERP system is never easy, especially when the battle is as evenly paced as Acumatica versus NetSuite. However, Acumatica may likely offer more flexibility and cost savings for your business.
